Sotheby’s auction house will accept BTC, ETH and USDC as bids for a rare black diamond
British auction house Sotheby’s has announced that it will accept Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and USD Coin (USDC) to sell a rare 555.55 carat diamond called “The Enigma”.
Sotheby’s said that the decision to sell the black diamond for cryptocurrency is due to the success of the previous auction, which took place in July. Then an anonymous buyer purchased a rare 101.38 carat diamond called “The Key 10138” for $12.3 million in cryptocurrency.
“This auction is a continuation of our efforts to lead the market given the strength of the cryptocurrency community. I hope we can get them involved in this diamond as well,” said Sotheby’s jewelry specialist and head of sales in London, Nikita Binani.
Coinbase Commerce will process the cryptocurrency transaction.
